Just out of reach of the shadows cast by Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station you can find this man meticulously mending pallets. Strip-by-strip, strut-by-strut, he spends his days tapping nails into lumps of wood with the intention of selling the pallets on for an undisclosed sum. Tim asked me to guess his age, a question that always makes me feel a little uneasy as it puts me at risk of being offensive, so naturally I always answer with a number 10years below what I actually think. "58" was my answer, "your way off lad, i'm 82" was his reply. Looking good I thought as I cycled off with a twinge of jealousy towards this man's simple existence.
